With 2016 now in the rear view mirror, we’d like to take a few moments to look back over the year…
It’s been a busy and exciting year at the Mandarin, we reached 2,000 followers on Facebook, topped 1,000 ‘Excellent’ reviews on TripAdvisor, reached the finals of the Food Awards and even won the Lux Tourism Award for ‘Best Chinese Restaurant in the North West England’!!
But it’s not been all work, work work, we’ve also had some fun with a few Strictly stars, sports players and Winter Gardens show casts popping in for a bite to eat and a even a visit from a giant panda!
In November, Strictly Come Dancing judge Darcy Bussell and friends popped in to see us, she’s been to visit each time for the last few years so it’s lovely to think that we’re on her Blackpool ‘To Do’ list when she’s filming in the Tower ballroom 🙂
Throughout the year we’ve also had a few sport stars in, ranging from PDC professional darts players to snooker legends to Blackpool footballers. Make your own mind up on the order of their ‘sportiness’ just remember the relative sizes of these guys before you question their sporting prowess!!
One very special visitor was ex-Seasiders footballer Cheung Chi-Doy who came back to Blackpool from Hong Kong after 50 years. ‘Cheungy’, as he was affectionately known by his teammates, was one of the first overseas footballers to come to the UK in the 60’s and paved the way for many of the international players we see today.
More recently, we were lucky enough to host a Jazz evening with Stephen Pierre. London crooner and Blackpool’s Galleon Bar owner Stephen, took time out of his schedule so we could put on a special jazz event (see the video here), turning the Mandarin into a New York jazz club for the night. The evening was booked out, everyone seemed to have a fun time and we already have some bookings for the next dates on 9th March and 16th November. If you’re interested please give us a call or keep your eyes peeled for more info in the New Year.
